Case presentation – June 9, 2022: A three-year-old Quarter Horse filly backed into the catch for the stall door and punctured herself, creating a large, deep wound on her left thigh. The wound was sutured with internal and external stiches at clinic, however the injury persisted, and dehiscence of the suture occurred by July 17th. The owner expressed concerns to her veterinarian regarding scar tissue and the impact it could have on the horse’s future performance career.
July 29, 2022: 20 days after the initial injury, 5.0 cc of RenoVō® were implanted at the discretion of the veterinarian. The product was distributed subcutaneously around non-healing wound edges and into the wound.
August 21, 2022: 23 days following the RenoVō® implantation, the wound had granulated and completely epithelialized.
September 9, 2022: 42 days following the RenoVō® implantation, the puncture wound was clinically resolved. The horse is sound and has returned to work.
