Sara Sprague's RenoVō® Experience
Show Jumper | Richmond, MA
What changes have you personally seen since using RenoVō® in your horses?
“The biggest thing I’ve personally seen is horses feeling comfortable enough to either come back to work when the odds were not great or stay feeling really good while they’re in the middle of their careers.
My horse Voi de Pique (“Q”) is probably the most emotional example for me. After an incredible season in 2024, where he was Zone HOTY and the 1.45m Amateur Circuit Champion at WEC, he reinjured his deep digital flexor tendon in August 2024. We gave him months off, tried to bring him back, and then in the spring of 2025, he injured it again in a different part of the tendon, and this time, there was a large hole. At 17 years old, I honestly thought that might be the end of his jumping career.
With the help of Dr. Matt Povlovich and the team at RenoVō®, we injected RenoVō® directly into the lesion and turned him out to be just a horse for a while. Over time, his leg kept improving at every recheck until eventually I got the green light to start riding again in November of 2025. We brought him back slowly, and he ultimately returned to jumping the 1.30m jumpers in February of 2026. Being able to show a 17-year-old Grand Prix horse in the 1.30m again after something like that is pretty special.
On the other end of the spectrum is my horse Watson, who is in the middle of his career and competing at the top level. He finished 9th in his first Open Welcome at WEC and felt incredible. He was scopey, confident, and even pulled off a smooth inside turn in the jump-off. When a horse feels that good in their body, you can feel it immediately as a rider.
For me, RenoVō® has helped both ends of the spectrum. Horses coming back from injury and horses in their prime are feeling their best.”
What made you decide to start using RenoVō®, and what keeps you using it?
“The first horse I ever used RenoVō® on was my horse Vito, and honestly, at the time, it felt like a bit of a gamble.
He had a sesamoidian lesion that just wasn’t improving. We had already tried months of stall rest and other treatments, and the ultrasound wasn’t getting better. Our vet suggested trying RenoVō®, which at the time (2021) felt somewhat experimental, but we were willing to try anything that might help him.
Two months after the injection, we ultrasounded the area again, and our vet said it looked better than she ever thought we would be able to get it. Instead of a big defect, there was actually a visible fiber pattern forming in the tissue.
That horse went on to do far more than we ever expected. He became a consistent 3’6 Amateur Owner Hunter with multiple championships at WEC, qualified for and showed at Devon, and at 16 years old, he even scored a 91 and finished second in a $10,000 International Hunter Derby.
Seeing that happen with an older horse like Vito is what convinced me. After that, it stopped feeling like a gamble and became our go-to, from joints to tendons to wounds, we have seen success with RenoVō® across the board!”
